Level 3 Inspection Launches “Co-location” 3D Scanning Inspection Service

Stuart, Florida (March 20, 2018) – Level 3 Inspection (L3I) announced its new “Co-location” service, bringing its 3D scanning inspection laboratory onsite to customer facilities. As the first to offer onsite inspection services for precision components manufacturers, Level 3 expects to dramatically accelerate the dimensional inspection report process and delivery in the aviation supply chain industry.

Test

“Jet engine parts manufacturers are under a tremendous amount of pressure to deliver components quickly,” said Bill Greene, CEO of Level 3 Inspection. “By bringing our 3D scanning lab and technicians to their facilities, manufacturers can now have answers in minutes or hours rather than days.”

Through the Co-location service, L3I technicians and equipment can be onsite anywhere in the U.S. in as little as 36 hours. This eliminates the time and cost it takes for manufacturers to ship parts back and forth for scanning and inspection, speeding the process while saving them money.

The Co-location service provides especially high value to parts manufacturers who have backlogs or are under pressure to fulfill orders in a short amount of time. It also gives manufacturers greater flexibility, allowing them to shift priorities quickly if an emergency or other pressing matter arises.

“A client recently referred to us as their ‘emergency response team,’” added Greene. “Our goal is to help our clients deliver conforming parts faster, to meet their customers’ demands.”

L3I has pilot tested the Co-location program with a handful of customers, all of whom have given positive feedback. L3I has the capability to go onsite for short-term or long-term engagements, providing first article inspection (FAI) or ongoing production parts inspection services. L31 technicians are master practitioners in the modern metrology tools and equipment they bring onsite with each engagement.

As the largest and most experienced 3D inspection services provider, Level 3 Inspection offers the world’s most advanced dimensional quality inspection capabilities to precision components manufacturers. Using 21st-century metrology tools and its proprietary Computer Aided Inspection (CAI) process, L3I helps its clients make better precision parts, much faster, at lower cost, and with greater confidence.

Press Release – On-Site Inspection

Press Release
L3I Wows Onlookers with On-Site Turbine Inspection
BERLIN, Sept. 12, 2011 — Level 3 Inspection, a process engineering and inspection firm headquartered in Stuart, Florida, impressed observers in an August industrial gas turbine (IGT) field scanning project performed in record time at global IGT giant Siemens’s Berlin manufacturing center. Master scanning technician Wade Rigsby scanned a series of combustors, ducts and vanes on-site. The massive parts never had to leave the warehouse floor.
“By making our SmartFAI (First Article Inspection) process portable and global, we’ve demonstrated that we can pull together an inspection process on site without adding any down time for the customer,” said Scott McAfee, chief engineer and COO, referring to L3I’s First Article Inspection service. “High data density combined with complete inspection according to specs and requirements gives our customers the insights that they need to optimize their operations.”
L3I is expanding its field scanning operations to provide IGT component and engine manufacturers with plentiful surface dimensional data to find subtle process anomalies and wear trends, without the parts ever needing to leave the factory or power plant. With part surface point densities as high as 800 points per square millimeter — each point having its own precise 3D coordinates — manufacturers can gain new insights are available into the root causes of performance limits, develop a rework process, or verify repairs on any turbine engine component.
“Speed is the key. Traditional CMM-based processes are far too slow and costly in today’s competitive gas turbine parts market,” said Bill Greene, L3I’s CEO and director of business development. “Worse, CMM data are sparse and don’t allow trending over time. Fortunately, our 21st Century white light scanning experience, combined with the strongest airfoil domain expertise offers a vastly superior dimensional inspection capability for turbine manufacturers and their customers around the world.”
L3I prefers to treat its customers as partners. Any inspection process begins with a candid discussion of the problem. A comprehensive inspection strategy is planned and launched. Once a part has been scanned and a report saved, the inspection and analysis processes become repeatable, and can then be duplicated on other replacement parts or serviced parts. Ongoing trend analysis allows the team to study wear patterns, changes over time, or variations from part to part.
Facing a market that is tougher than ever, IGT manufacturers have to be ready to adjust — or overhaul — their design and manufacturing strategies while parts are still in development. Manufacturers need enough information to make the correct decisions the first time. By bringing fast, comprehensive, and repeatable inspection directly to the customer, L3I’s on-site approach solves the speed versus accuracy dilemma.

Press Release – Outcome Based Business Model

L3I Unveils Outcome Based Business Model

WARSAW, Ind., August 12, 2011 — Level 3 Inspection has announced an Outcome Based Partnership (OBP) hybrid business model based on vested interest partnership and proven time-to-market (TTM) savings. Long respected for advanced dimensional inspection and accelerated process optimization, L3I’s new OBP-based services are helping precision manufacturers reduce TTM and roll out innovations sooner than their competitors — at no front-end cost.

“Precision manufacturers look for any edge to get their products out faster,” said L3I’s COO, Scott McAfee. “We use our tools and expertise to save TTM. We save them millions!” Since each day’s delay in TTM can easily cost a manufacturer tens of thousands of dollars, trimming just a few weeks from a months-long development program can save substantial money and restore first-mover market advantage.

“We’ve got decades of experience in solving vexing engineering problems,” said L3I’s CEO, Bill Greene. “We eliminate our customers’ extraneous iterations and use tenthousand times more information to solve problems, save time and money.”

L3I is offering to become a strategic ally in a technology partnership with clients, to be compensated a share of time and cost savings due to TTM process optimization after such savings have been demonstrated.

“By requiring zero money down, we can prove our capabilities at no risk to the customer,” said Midwest Regional Manager Mark McAfee. “We don’t make a dime till we save you time!”

“Studies have proved that L3I’s system and method of inspection for implants is as accurate or better than our CMM’s. Since the white light scanning processes have the required accuracy and can cover so much more of the feature surface, their data is a more accurate representation of true size and form.” – Metrology Director, Orthopaedic OEM

Level 3 Inspection Unveils Turnkey Smart Inspection System™ at OrthoTec 2011
WARSAW, Ind., May 12, 2011 — Level 3 Inspection LLC (L3I) of Florida and Indiana, an ISO 9001, AS9100 and AAAM 44.9:OI/OS certified process engineering and dimensional inspection firm, has announced that the Smart Inspection Station™ (SiS™) will be unveiled at the OrthoTec exposition in Winona Lake, Indiana May 24, 2011.
Long known for its professional metrology services and advanced dimensional inspection reports on quick turnaround, L3I has just expanded with a turnkey solutions division, Smart Inspection Systems LLC, to customconfigure and implement modern inspection systems directly in orthopaedic and other precision manufacturers’ facilities, so manufacturers can obtain needed inspection results in minutes.
“We’ve been listening intently to what our clients want in order to adopt this 21st Century measurement and inspection technology,” said L3I CEO, Bill Greene. “The SIS™ is the culmination of our 11 years’ experience with these technologies. With its configuration options, ease, speed and automation, it’s an ideal platform for shop floor precision parts inspection.”
The SiS™ is an easy-to-use White Light Scanning (WLS) and Computer Aided Inspection (CAI) system that orthopaedic and other precision manufacturers can install practically anywhere in their operations. It uses fringe-light patterns to digitize the surfaces of orthopaedic implants and other precision manufactured parts, automatically generating full PDF inspection reports with minimal operator input and personnel training.
WLS provides a thorough understanding of geometric form, with millions of data points across the surface. “Studies have proved that [L3I’s] system and method of inspection for implants is as accurate or better than our CMM’s. Since the white light scanning processes have the required accuracy and can cover so much more of the feature surface, their data is a more accurate representation of … true size and form.” – Metrology Director, Orthopaedic OEM
Measurement Systems Evaluations (MSE) and Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies have consistently demonstrated measurement accuracies of 0.000040”. These reports are available upon request.
Although the SiS™ is fully transportable and able to withstand the rigors of shop floor deployment, L3I will shuttle participants between the OrthoTec expo and its central Warsaw configuration laboratory for scheduled 15-minute demonstrations on May 24th and 25th. Transportation and refreshments will be provided.
